We love to sing and proclaim being "overcomers," but it's a bit indicting to say such when we're neck-deep in the weights of pleasure, luxury, entertainment, and ambition. Scripture indicates over and over that these are the initial things that should be overcome, that we might find the means to overcome the real obstacles like fear, worry, and bitterness! But by Christ's provision, I can overcome ME!
Lord, teach us again the virtues of biblical fruit inspection! Some of the colorful, juicy fruit we love to produce and partake of is literally poisonous to our soul; while the rich, nourishing fruit from the Tree of Life can hardly even be seen with our carnal, self-serving eyes.
The disciples left all, and they gained ALL, many being imprisoned and executed for their faith. May I become submerged in this New Life You have provided, to the degree that the amenities of the old life be seen for what they truly are. I want to know You now, in the fellowship of Your suffering, that my life may be abundant here, and my treasures safe with You in my heavenly residence.
