THE ONE THING

"Only one basket, and you are to put EVERYTHING in it"

Jesus spoke of a man who dealt in pearls, an expert trader who knew and sought after the finer things. One day he came upon a remarkable pearl, breathtakingly beautiful and flawless! In the parable, we witness a man so taken with attraction to this one, unique pearl that he abandoned all sense of reasonable business, and he sold everything to buy for himself, this Pearl of Great Price!

Some say, “Don't put all your eggs in one basket,” but Jesus teaches that Everything is about the One Basket, and you are to put everything in it. Our lives have become overfilled with variety and decisions, yet our Creator simply pleads, Choose Life! Everything else is cleverly disguised, luring us away from that Life, and the Pearl of Great Price! The ultimate goal of the enemy of our souls, is to steal that Life from us.

Distraction, through options, seems to be the “poison of the day;” slavery disguised as freedom. Those who possess the Great Pearl have come to realize its unsurpassed value, but those who still consider it can't see its simple beauty for the myriads of deceptive choices. Selfish alternatives that have been individually custom-tailored to sedate and lure the sick and wounded hearts of mankind.

May we choose wisely. The Word of God is True, Trustworthy, and Proven. Our own understanding is short-term and tends to serve our immediate desires. Our Father, on the other hand, holds out only the Best for those who will trust Him. Don't be confused by so much variety, it all comes down to: The One Thing.
