WHAT TO DO?
"We become like those with whom we spend our time."
A hundred times a day I stop and say, “Lord, I was ignoring you again! I’m so sorry that my mind is so earthly centered. What would You have me do?” Do? Often, when I’ve been away from Sally, the reunion begins with a simple kiss. But I don’t immediately ask her what she wants me to do! When I consider that, I realize the same thing is true of my LORD. He seeks foremost, my affection and all my attention. He didn’t save me to save the world for Him; regardless of what the world around us looks like. He’s got it all in His complete control. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him in spirit and in Truth.
We know we were saved by Grace, and that our works are the fruit of our relationship, not the root. Yet, we still have this inborn proclivity to think He wants us to always perform. As with any mentor, availability and submission is the object that God seeks, not well-intentioned busywork! Yes, we are to be Christ’s hands and feet, but the Body of Christ is hardly benefitted by “Jimmy-legs!” Be still and wait for the gentle and intentional prompting of the Lord!
Even with our new heart, we find it hard to imagine that Christ desires us to be always aware of Him in and with us every day; not just busy trying to do, do, do! We were taught in Psalms, that once we delight ourselves in Him, once He is what we want most, our desires will be fulfilled. We can be sure that by abiding in His presence, while working, shopping, driving, etc., we will instinctively find ourselves, in every situation, “saying what He would say, and doing what He would do!”
First, we recognize He is always, not only in our hearts, but also everywhere we go, standing beside us. As our awareness of His nearness grows, we become more like Him. The “doing,” or works, become a mere extension of His doing, as Christ did what He saw His Father doing.
We become like those with whom we spend our time. Let us never miss a minute with the One who desires all our Love and attention. Then one day, “We Shall be Like Him!”

Delight thyself also in the LORD; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Excellent! I teach this stuff all the time. But, as I woke up this morning, the Lord gently took me to the woodshed showing something I did last night—without remembering to pray first! Aargh! I've got the new body on order, but I can't seem to get the delivery date! >chuckle<
Entering into His rest is the greatest gift, and it is so counter intuitive and counter culture. I think of how Mary waited at His feet while Martha bustled around in the kitchen. Most of us are Marthas. Not that Martha’s tasks weren’t valuable. They were and are, but God values relationship first. Putting the Lord first…letting go of striving…and letting Him simply fill us with His light, power, strength, wisdom, love and grace is everything.
