I think you raise an important point here. Lewis wrote about in Mere Christianity. Any new thing that is wonderful (and what could be more wonderful than finding Christ) has a tendency to lose its intensity or that butterfly feeling as you say.

In one sense that’s okay even for faith (not the loss of love, as that would be tragic, but the growth side of it). His point was we should look forward to the maturing, the deeper, richer discovery that may take more time to evolve and grow within us. In essence the deepening and tightening of the bond.

Maturing in anything doesn’t always look exciting, but it’s definitely worth it.

As we move on in life, it is good to pay attention to those who are still with us (even if not physically close) but in tune with our minds and interest. Return that attention and steadfast love. It can warm our hearts. Know those that we can count on. They are still with us.
